In my mid twenties I met a French exchange student traveling in the United States with a missionary family. It was love at first sight for me and 6 months later we were married. I had never traveled to Europe up until that point but after my first visit to France I was hooked on the quality of the breads & pastries!
Fast forward to 2016 when I was living in the Florida Keys, I met a French couple selling ciabattas up & down the Keys at farmers markets. I really took an interest in these breads as it brought me back to my early years and the visits I had made to Europe.
While in the keys I acquired several mobile homes rented them to locals. One of them, I put online as a vacation rental and it took off, it was called “the pink flamingo” and within a year it had a 5 star rating. The homes allowed me to retire early, until Hurricane Irma hit and wiped them out. The only good thing that came out of it all was that FEMA issued funds to folks that lost their homes to start over. With that, I moved back to Central Florida and got into the bread business selling breads & pastries at local farmers markets.
A year later I opened a bakery in my hometown of Mount Dora, as there was a real demand for artisan baked breads & French pastries. Over the last several years we have refined the markets & bakery to meet the growing demands. I literally turned a devastating circumstance into a new opportunity, and European Breads was born!
